Ahmad Mohammadpour
Ahmad Mohammadpour, a prominent artist of the second generation of the Iranian calligraphy movement, was born in 1965 in Babolsar. From a young age, he became familiar with the world of calligraphy and joined the Calligraphers Association in 1971. Years of practice and training within this association transformed him into a skilled artist in Nasta’liq script.
Mohammadpour graduated from the Calligraphy Association in 1986. He also holds a First-Class Artistic Degree (Doctorate of Artistic Research) from the Artistic Evaluation Council of the country in 2008.
However, Mohammadpour thought beyond traditional calligraphy. He sought new boundaries and brought his brush into the realm of calligraphy painting. In his works, a commitment to calligraphy is intertwined with painterly innovations, breathing new life into the script.
The repetition and multiplication of words and letters in Mohammadpour’s large-scale panels create a cloud-like texture that seems to emerge from the depths of language itself. Using limited colors, he creates a spiritual and contemplative atmosphere in his works.
Throughout his professional career, Mohammadpour has earned many honors. In 2009, he received the First-Class Artistic Medal from the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, and two years later, he obtained a teaching certificate from the Iranian Calligraphers Association.
His works have been exhibited in numerous exhibitions across Iran and worldwide. His first solo exhibition was held in 1991 at the Sihun Gallery, and since then, he has participated in group exhibitions at Golestan Palace, the Iran Contemporary Art Museum, the Rome National Museum, the Turkish National Museum, and others.
Mohammadpour’s works have also been successful at auctions. His first auction was in 2012 at the Millon & Associates Auction House, where his works were sold. By 2021, he had participated in five domestic and international auctions, with 80% of his works sold.
